Ubisoft is trying to hold onto it’s dwindling relationship with PC gamers after many issues with DRM on From Dust. Ubisoft has recently stated on it’s forums that they are actively working on a patch, which should be available for download in two weeks, that will remove the constant need for online authentication to play the game.
“This development time is required as we are working to ensure that those who have already started the game, and who’s progress is currently saved on our servers, will receive and save their game information locally,” the statement reads. “Once the patch is ready, players who already have the game will automatically receive the update on their next login and subsequent game sessions will be 100% offline.”
Unfortunately, the problems do not end at DRM for From Dust, with many users reporting bugs and technical issues along the way, which Ubisoft didn’t mention in its statement. Hopefully, if consumers continue to reject strict DRM requirements then Ubisoft will listen and make it less strict. However, they are seeing significantly less pirated versions floating around so who knows.

Huh, didn’t they say a while ago that it was a one-time authorization? The link is in the article I wrote on steam giving refunds on it and how it was a rumor.
Regardless, gamers need to take far more hostile approaches to DRM that’s unfair. If I put in the serial code and nobody else is using that code, then that should be the end of it. That’s how it used to be and you know what? IT WORKED.
