Even though the Devil may Cry reboot is getting a large amount of criticism for ruining an established image of the Son of Sparda, a recently-released gameplay video shows off Dante’s fighting style of a series of violent attacks. Video from Gamescom 2011 after the jump.

In the trailer, Dante can be seen using a scythe for impossibly-reasonable combos in the air that are far longer than most air combos possible in the previous games. He can also be seen using a grappling hook to pull enemies back into the fray or to clothesline them with a strong kick. Yanking an enemy out of reach towards you will make some major additions to the metagame and keep Dante’s style meter high for all the ass-kicking he needs to do every time an incident comes up.
Even though the scythe is getting a lot of screen time, Dante is also seen using a sword, and guns. The enemy count seems to be quite low and the areas are incredibly spacious, but this may be changed when the game is released.
I’ll throw my bias against Dante’s new meth-addicted design and say that this looks like it can be a very good game when you look purely at the gameplay, but fans of the original design are still going to give it plenty of flack. I do hate it when a game with great potential goes to waste and I believe this will be one of them.
Hopefully they can drum up all the hype it needs so it’s not a huge failure for Capcom like the second entry in the series was. That would be a major hit to their wallet considering the cost of creating a game these days.

I have never played a previous Devil May Cry title, and I can’t say how much Bayonetta was inspired by that. Based of this video though, I would easily confuse this with a male-oriented sequel to Bayonetta. The combat, enemies, areas and overall gameplay looks strikingly similar.

You haven’t? You can pick up the Devil May Cry collection for the PS2 at a pretty low price. It’s worth it for the first and third games but the second one is just poor. The fourth is slightly below DMC3 but thankfully has a similar gameplay engine. I really recommend it.

I should do that,is it an HD collection for the PS3?
