The “Pay what you want” for a small series of indie games has another entry with five games. Crayon Physics Deluxe, Cogs, VVVVVV, Hammerfight, and And Yet It Moves. To get all of these would be $50, but as always, you can pay what you want in US dollars and decide where your money goes. As I often do with these things, I’ll sum up the games.
Crayon Physics is just that. You draw things to solve physics puzzles. The drawn objects are subject to the laws of physics and gravity, and everyone knows that physics games are pretty popular.
Cogs is like those sliding puzzle things you sometimes see. Moving the slidables in order to get the machine working, making it a puzzle game much like Crayon Physics.
Hammerfight is an action game in which you play a helicopter that uses oversized weapons, killing your opponents. Has very nice graphics, visuals, gameplay and it can be very intense at times.
VVVVVV is a platformer with a very retro style that can be compared to some of the earliest games in history. You play as Captain Viridian who navigates through a series of screens to find his crewmates after a mishap during an evacuation. It’s notable for its simple mechanic in which Viridian cannot jump or attack, but can reverse his personal gravity. It’s also known for its excellent soundtrack which uses instruments suitable for its retro style. The game includes a level editor and a bonus level created by Notch.
And Yet It Moves is a very interesting physics platformer. The world quite literally revolves around you, with gravity updating to your perspective of up and down, making for some very unpredictable and difficult levels, and a very innovative game in general.
The theme this time is honestly focused on physics, and in my opinion, the bundle is worth getting for VVVVVV alone. This one will end two weeks from now.
A portion of the Humble Indie Bundle will go to the developers, the EFF, and the Child’s Play Charity. The Humble Indie Bundle has raised over one million dollars for charity, showing the generosity of gamers worldwide. Don’t be cheap on it now!
