Capcom caught in a lie. Says Mega Man wont be in MvC3 due to lack of fan requests. Survey on the official site says otherwise.

Capcom caught in a lie. Says Mega Man wont be in MvC3 due to lack of fan requests. Survey on the official site says otherwise.

The roster for Marvel vs Capcom 3 was partially leaked recently, showing several Capcom characters including Nemesis from Resident Evil, Phoenix Wright from the Ace Attorney series, and Vergil from Devil May Cry 3, but no sign of Mega Man. Ryota Niitsuma said to Siliconera that the leak was the truth, but also commented on the lack of Mega Man.
“I’m sorry, there is no Mega Man in Ultimate. We had a lot of requests from fans for Mega Man or at least one of them to be in the game. Out of all of the requests we got for Capcom characters, he just didn’t enter the top part of the ranking. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut.”

That’s all fine and dandy, but the truth of the matter is that a poll was taken on which characters should be in Marvel vs Capcom 3, and Mega Man most certainly did not land a high place.

He landed first place, 542 votes ahead of Phoenix Wright. Even though this was not an official poll (the mod that posted the thread is a volunteer and is not an official employee), a segment of Ask Capcom Live showed that they were aware of the results and were listening to the opinions, but the results were ignored or unnoticed by the producer Niitsuma. I’m personally leaning towards Ignored.

They could have simply said “We don’t want to put Mega Man in this installment”, but instead there was a complete disregard for what the fans had said. Capcom is walking on some very sharp spikes right now with its fans, and I’m starting to think they want to simply drop Mega Man altogether due to one of the fathers of the Mega Man project quitting Capcom last year.

They seem to be going back and forth on quite a lot of controversies, as I seldom see Capcom in the news since they are rather low on my priority list for companies I’m interested in. MvC3 hasn’t been released yet, and DLC is perfectly common nowadays, so the Blue Bomber may very well appear in the final build or in the DLC.
