The rumour mill was buzzing with news about Netflix hitting the Nintendo 3DS since yesterday, and whoever spread it was bang on! Netflix have released an official public statement confirming the arrival of their online streaming service on Nintendo’s portable 3D handheld.
Netflix now takes a leap from the Wii to land on the glass free 3D gaming device as well. With its existing Wii user base of more than 1.5 million members, Netflix will be looking to make most of the portable market as well. USA and Canada users will be able to download the free app starting today. Netflix enables users to watch movies and TV series episodes on the go. It sure doesn’t hurt that the app is pretty and user friendly as well.
7.99 USD a month will get you Netflix membership, enabling you to watch your favourite cinema and TV shows at will. The membership can be availed across multiple devices as well, for instance, the same membership can be used to stream videos on your Wii as well 3DS. The videos available currently will be 2D and will run on the 3DS’ upper screen.
Paranoid parents need not worry either, with the parental settings on board the 3DS fully capable of filtering inappropriate content off Netflix for their children. Parental setting changes made to the Netflix account will reflect across all accounts, including the 3DS as well.
Note: Nintendo’s latest free software update for the 3DS (2011.06.06) must be applied before the Netflix app can be installed.
