It’s currently just an hour until Microsoft’s big E3 press conference, but one of Microsoft’s big surprise announcements has been accidentally leaked out a little earlier than Microsoft would’ve wanted: not one, but two Halo games are in development, the first being a remake of the original Halo, and the second is an entirely new entry into the franchise.
Apparently somebody at Xbox.com didn’t realize that they weren’t supposed to talk about these games until after Microsoft’s press event, but the site was updated earlier this morning with news of Halo 4, Halo CE Anniversary, as well as official announcements regarding Kinect Sports 2 and Kinect Star Wars (which I know gamers have been anticipating for months /sarcasm,).
It comes as no surprise that Microsoft would continue their flagship series even after series creators and developers Bungie jumped ship to multiplatform development with Activision, but Microsoft is going to have to show off something amazing with regards to Halo 4 in order to allay fans’ fears that the series will jump the shark now that the completely untested 343 Studios is developing the new Halo games. Reach was an amazing swang song for Bungie’s time with the Halo franchise, and Microsoft and 343 Studios are really going to have to work hard to top that.
Expect more news regarding Halo after (the hopefully awesome) Microsoft press conference later today.
