The XBox 360 version of LA Noire comes on a total of 3 DVDs, unlike the PS3 version which comes on a single Blu-Ray, not a big deal. We’re used to multiple disks on a game, especially in the PSX era where the Final Fantasy series, Xenogears, Metal Gear Solid, and a nice handful of others came on 2-4 disks at a time due to technology limitations.
The problem? People realized that during the disk transitions, or in a few cases when they tried to start the game, they didn’t have the correct disks. People had multiple copies of the first, second, or third disks in their jewel cases. You can easily imagine the reaction.
People were apparently furious and in significant numbers. The stores selling LA Noire in the UK having some people who had some very nasty bones to pick with the staff. This isn’t just a single store with an inept employee somewhere, this happened over several stores and retailers, meaning the source has a screwup somewhere.
Even though people could’ve been mature in the store and said “Okay, I have disk 2, I’ll trade for disks 1 and 3.” and get the disks sorted out that way, they decided to tear into the clerks behind the desk and blame the entire thing on them instead of the manufacturer. Some people considered demanding compensation from the store to reimburse their fuel costs as gas is extremely expensive in the UK.
Between this and the severe overheating issue on the PS3 and 360, LA Noire has gotten off to an extremely rocky start despite the stellar reviews it has gotten from multiple critics and sites. Hopefully this can be resolved in a swift and mature manner without further mucking it up.
