Starting on the PSX as Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey, the Oddworld series is known for its bizarre characters, great gameplay, and very unusual settings. Now, the four Oddworld games Abe’s Oddyssey, Abe’s Exoddus, Munch’s Oddysee, and Stranger’s Wrath are looking at a compilation on the PS3. The company Just Add Water is the one behind this. In addition, they will be working on reviving the scrapped RTS project Oddworld: Hand of Odd which was announced back in the late 90s.
For those not in the know, the original Oddworld games featured the Mudokon Abe who worked at a factory known as Rupture Farms, which turned the native animals of Oddworld into delicious food. Even sending some species to extinction. With sales and profits down, they came up with a new project, Mudokon Pops. Abe’s escape from Rupture Farms begins his epic adventure to save several hundred enslaved Mudokons from being turned into food.
The later title Stranger’s Wrath was a first-person shooter about a bounty hunter who used live ammo. With Oddworld being made by some very odd people, this “live ammo” is in the literal sense, including things like bees and other living creatures. Though a very bizarre and off-the-wall series, I will admit that the first two games (the only Oddworld games I’ve played) are utterly fantastic skill-based platformers. Once this is released, I recommend picking it up if you’ve not traded in your PS3 after the hacking fiasco.
