Only two weeks ago PopCap games announced they were creating a sub label, 4th and Battery Games, within the company that would only make unique and experimental type games, just in case something doesn’t go well they will be saved from bad publicity. It seems this was a great pre-emptive as their first game has already been rejected from Apple for its content.
Unpleasant Horses, an iOS game that pits Pagasus (Pagasi?) against each other in the sky while the loser is inevitably thrown to the ground where a meat grinder resides simply to chew up the poor flying horse. That content was considered too “mature” for the Apple Store 4th and Battery then responded with a now-deleted tweet saying “We thought horses dying in meat grinders was wholesome family entertainment.”
The company is going to try and re-release the game with the higher rating and see if it will get approval from the fruit giants.
I personally feel this is reason game companies can’t create new and innovative ideas for the mass market as there are always roadblocks, but fart apps seem to be perfectly acceptable. What do you guys think?
