A few weeks ago we began talking about the future of hardcore titles on Kinect, and shortly after rumblings of a potential Gears Kinect title was rumored. No much has changed for the status of this supposed title, but fortunately the rumors by now can be squashed and actual speculation can begun. Gears of War game designer Cliff Bleszinski released a VGA teaser trailer today stating that a Gears announcement would be made on December 11th during the awards. Cliff goes on to say that this announcement will get everyone talking, but does not goes as far to say what type of announcement this is.
The three ideas that strike me go as follows. With almost a full year to work with its features, it is not that far fetched to think that Gears 3 could have optional Kinect based controls for components of the game, for instance reloading your weapon could be a real time event similar to moving your gun to the side of the screen with arcade shooters. Another idea could be a completely independent Kinect title, personally I can see this title becoming more successful with full attention to detail dedicated to the functionality of the sensor.
And on a more realistic note, I can see the VGA’s being used to launch a trailer for the Gears of War movie that has long been talked about. Epic has previously gone on record saying that they were working along side a production studio to develop this movie, and that was around the buzz of Gears 2. I think we would all like to see some Gears gaming related news, but this movie concept could be the real deal.
If there was one hardcore title to adapt to Kinect, Gears of War seems like it could take on the challenge in style. At this point all things mentioned are still considered speculation, but we know something for real is on the way. Epic never disappoints and this VGA surprise will certainly get everyone talking! What do you think is on the way?
