The original N64 classic Goldeneye set a standard for all first person shooters to come after it, it was a pioneer of the genre that still dominates the gaming industry today. Alot of time has come and gone since this classic and by the looks of things Nintendo has taken their time for a reason. The developer team at EuroCom has not only revived a great franchise, but have also re invented what a FPS can be on the Nintendo Wii.
The cinematic scale and epicness of a title like Call of Duty or Halo has been hard to replicate through the controls and hardware limitation of the Wii, but GoldenEye has changed that. After sinking a few hours into this title on launch day its apparent that this is a whole new version of Goldeneye and that’s a very good thing, this game will definitely stand up on its own and should not be considered a lame remake.
This is a fresh new experience that is full of nostalgia from both the classic game and great moments and game mechanics from the last ten years of FPS evolution. Eurocom has jam packed both the single player and multiplayer modes with so much detail and care that the experience doesn’t have a chance to come off cheesy. The change from Pierce Brosnan to Daniel Craig has give the whole Bond vibe a more rugged and chaotic style and it shows in the gameplay. Everything from gunfire to grenades to melee is tight and accurate.
The campaign so far is unfolding with the same events as the film and classic game, but each encounter and environment has been filled with new problems to solve and new paths to take. This isn’t an exact remake by any stretch it is more of a re imagining in every way. This game should make Wii owners proud to be part of the huge world of FPS because the gameplay and structure throughout so far are grade A, 007 is the game that got most of us gamers interested in console FPS’s anyway so its time to pay our respects.
If you own a Wii and play shooters this is definitely for you, being able to play the game with the new classic controller makes the whole experience feels as if you are playing a shooter on the Xbox or PS3 with the visuals toned down. Most gamers generally agree that gameplay matters over graphics and this title should help cement that fact, with minor frame rate issues at hectic moments its hard to gripe on an overall great looking game.
Here is the launch trailer below definitely got me in the mood, after all when a great game comes out on your birthday its hard to resist (lucky me). This game is in stores now so check this game out and let us know what you think, this is a good time to great some extra controllers for the holidays and get good old split screen 007 going!

I don't think that should stop people in anyway from enjoying the game.. and I don't mind Daniel Craig though
