Undead Nightmare has easily been the piece of DLC that I have been most looking forward to since all of the Red Dead DLC was announced after launch. With the quality expansions Rockstar has provided in the past, I was anxious to see how they would treat such a cliche or mainstream gaming trend like Zombies.
Undead Nightmare is a complete title from when you load this up at the games title screen, and the game follows the story of John Marston from the full length game. John is put in a ver difficult position at the beginning of this new Campaign, which leads to some great gameplay. Undead Nightmare carries a much different tone then previous Red Dead DLC and even the original game its self. The gameplay is fast paced and often times pretty demanding in the skill department.
New items and weapons have been introduced to manage the towns and graveyards filled with Zombies. All of the missions involve cleansing the infected towns and assisting survivors in the fight to find answers as the why the dead are rising.
The entire game world is given a creepy overhaul to enhance the mood, fog and darkness sweep across the old west now to provide that eery horror movie vibe. Even at night or during storms lighting will crack in the distance.
The gameplay feels fresh and new, no longer can you grab a piece of cover and pop and shoot your way to victory. Running and shooting are more of the theme, with heavy use of your dead eye meter which is given some extra stamina itself. Ammo is very limited in Undead Nightmare, you have to rely on completing missions that reward you with equipment or finding ammo stashes. Some Zombie bodies can be looted for ammo as well.
Their is much more to play in Undead Nightmare as these were only my first impressions, by the looks of previous trailers their is some hefty multiplayer to sink into as well. I highly recommend this DLC for Red Dead owners, and Xbox live has also offered a package DLC deal where you can purchase all previous Red Dead DLC for only 1600 MS (one DLC free pretty much). So give it a download and let us know what you think.
