Research in Motion (RIM) is now entering the world of tablets. Much like the Apple Ipad, Samsung Galaxy, and Dell Streak, the BlackBerry PlayBook is being introduced. According to RIM the tablet will be in the US in the early months of 2011. The device is a bit smaller than the Ipad, it has a 7 inch display which is 9.7mm thick and weighs 0.9 lbs.
The tablet has 2 cameras built in, one on the front (3 megapixels) and one on the back (5 megapixels) which are both able to capture HD video. It runs on a specially designed BlackBerry Tablet OS which will be powered by a Cortex A9 1GHz dual-core processor and will have 1GB built in RAM ( the Ipad has 256 MB, the Streak and Galaxy have 512 MB). The PlayBook is capable to preform multitasking like watching a movie in one window and surfing the web in another and can support flash (full Adobe 10.1). It also has built in support for HTML 5. As for internal storage, it will come with 16 and 32 GB versions. Its resolution is 1024×600, with 1080p HD quality. The device has a micro usb and micro HDMI ports.
The PlayBook will have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and will come with 3G and eventually 4G via blackberry service plan. Having Bluetooth means it will be able to sync to a nearby blackberry. There are no exact prices released yet but it will probably cost between $300-$500. So the PlayBook is pretty much just as good as the average notebook computer.
