It was announced in the most recent issue of Famitsu, the major Japanese gaming magazine, and later confirmed at Tokyo Game Show, that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are coming to a Blu-Ray disc near you, next spring. Much like the other classic PS2 remakes such as the Rachet and Clank series and The Sly Copper series, these games will also receive the HD and 3D treatment, to make them more palatable for the current generation gamer.
For many the Team Ico games are deep and heartfelt adventures lacking tradition forms of dialogue, but the narrative is far from lost. To see these games, which were beautiful even running on the PS2, upscaled to HD quality will be very impressive and certain warrant another play through for even those that have beaten the games several times over.
As for 3D, this series would most benefit from it, considering the environments and depth imbued into the games. This feature will only further draw the gamers into these unique and creative worlds unlike any other gaming experience. Though, considering most 3D glasses give me a headache I am not likely to take advantage of this feature.
Considering The Last Guardian, Team Ico’s latest release, isn’t coming until next holiday season this release would be a great way to pass the time until then. You can look forward to this dual pack in the spring 2011.
