Android FTW?

Android FTW?

Wayne Jefferson 16 Jul

Does anyone like smart phones? Almost every phone company has a smart phone available and it’s really hard to know which phones are the good ones. If you see any phone on a company’s website, it’s going to look amazing and seem like the new best thing. But in the end, it will most likely end up not being very good. As of now, the most popular smart phones in the market are the BlackBerry and the iPhone. But another phone OS is making its way into the mobile world and its phones are called the android phones (most call them Google phones). So the android phones OS is just like Linux, just on a phone instead of on a computer. Therefore it is open sourced.

When the Android phones were first launched it was being called the iPhone killer because it had a touch screen. But calling it an iPhone killer was not an accurate description, think of it more as an iPhone alternative. For all the people who love the iPhone all the power to you. For iPhone users who feel locked down, the Android OS is for you. Almost every Android app is free, unlike the iPhone and Blackberry. They really do have an app for pretty much everything.  I would say one of the best parts of the Android phones, are the fact that you can run emulators on them, and play all the Nintendo classics. Now it may seem like I’m giving Android a praising but like all OS’s in the beginning, Android had some major issues. The biggest was the dreadful “Force Close” which happened way too often and was extremely annoying. With that said all it took after a couple months were some firmware updates and in no time it was up and running with almost no “Force Closes”. Also a massive confidence booster for the Android system was the release of the world’s first 4G phone.

Overall I would highly recommend the Android OS to anyone who feels like the Iphone experience is to predominate for them. Even though they had a rough start, they learned from their minor mistakes and were able to pick themselves up and become the 3rd biggest phone OS, and are currently closing the gap between them and the Iphone with the BlackBerry being 1st. I would definitely recommend the Android OS to anybody; it is definitely worth the try!
